Join us for an evening with Violet & Phylshawn, of Violet and the Undercurrents! This show is in our outdoor Music Garden behind The Rock House. With this being the first concert of our Fall series we thought we'd have some fun and give away a few door prizes. We also are going to be sharing some goodies from our garden. And to help with building our Rock House Music Garden audience if you bring a friend who has never been to The Rock House for a concert before they get in FREE! (1 person for 1 paid person). Message me with names. Tickets are $20 https://rockhousecenterforthearts.org Garden gates open at 6 pm, music begins at 7 pm. Parking in the large parking lot across the street. We hope to see you all here! Violet Vonder Haar and Phylshawn Johnson are no strangers to the performance world. Combined, they have nearly fifty years of experience. They met in 2010 when Violet hired Phylshawn to play on a solo project. Soon after, they fell in love, got married, and started the band Violet and the Undercurrents. The band promptly started touring the Midwest and beyond, eventually as far as the west coast, bringing their original folk rock to people from all walks of life. They played in backyards, concert halls, coffee houses, breweries, basements, and more.

When not performing, Violet & Phylshawn use their passions and their belief in the power of music to cultivate community and education. In 2011 they created Compass Music Camp, a music camp that teaches youth how to form a band and become independent musicians. The camp will return for its tenth year in the summer of 2022. They also both run full-time private lesson studios teaching guitar, ukulele, voice, piano and drums. In 2017, Violet & Phylshawn put together mid-Missouri’s biggest all female-identifying benefit band, the Jane Doe Revue. The band comprises nearly 30 members and has raised over $30,000 for women’s healthcare in Missouri.

It’s hard to pin down what kind of music Viole & Phylshawn make together. Their years of experience and influence let their sound shapeshift to whatever the milieu demands, be it folk, soul, rock, experimental, or even spoken word. The two make music the same way they work, love, and live: with open minds and hearts filled with gratitude for each moment.
